- What inspired you to become a hairstylist?
- I have always been a hands on, artistic person. Growing up the arts and music were my entire world. I knew I needed to do something in the world of art but I wasn't sure what. I went to Lasell College to be a journalist, thinking writing was that path, but always had the idea of hair in the back of my mind. All through college I did free lance makeup for special occasions and absolutely fell in love with it. I think what really made me take the leap was one, wanting to be like my grandmother, a hairstylist by trade for years, and for two, the salon I went to growing up was my favorite place to be, I would make any excuse to be in the chair and in that atmosphere, eventually I worked in that space and the world of hair opened up for me in bloom.
- What types of services do you specialize in or love doing most?
- My heart beats for vivid hair coloring, the more rainbow the better. But on the flip side of that blonding and color correcting are also two of my favorite services. In some ways all three of these go hand in hand. My knowledge of color theory is something I hold close to my heart and take a lot of pride in. I love a good cut but the science of a color and how they work together is my favorite thing in this industry.
- How would you describe your approach behind the chair?
- When I started my career I quickly found out that being myself is the best and only way for me to be behind the chair. I take a very “best friend” approach with my clients. I like to be casual and relevant, relating to the client as if I am there friend...ive found this way people are more comfortable opening up to me, explaining exactly what they want in a colloquial way we both can understand, and over all having the most personalized to them appointment. My favorite review Ive gotten said she felt like we knew each other for years by the end of the appointment, I take a lot of pride in that.
- What do you enjoy doing outside of the salon?
- I have a black, fat and fluffy cat named Styles, he is my whole heart. Yes, hes named after Harry Styles. My favorite thing to go and do is see live music, im a big pop punk fan and going to small shows in the city is my favorite. I also love getting tattooed, im probably up to about 30 and wanting more. I also love to stay home and re watch greys anatomy with my boyfriend, cooking a nice meal and drinking a little wine.
- What’s one fun fact or something most people don’t know about you?
- I am a level three certified USA archery instructor, just a level or two down from an Olympic instructor...The Hunger Games was a huge influence on that lol. I also love to read, I read 50 plus books a year...hence the hunger games influence.
